GreenRelease for Plant Health

The main objective of the FocusLab greenRelease is to significantly reduce fungicide and herbicide usage and thereby contributing to a sustainable agriculture and bioeconomy.

“GreenRelease for Plant Health” is a collaborative project, which includes the expertise of polymer chemists, protein engineers, computational pharmaceutical chemists, agricultural economists, and plant, agricultural as well as horticultural scientists and develops an integrated approach for sustainable plant protection system. The main aim of the project is to develop and evaluate a robust and applicable “greenRelease” technology, which will contribute to significantly minimize herbicide and fungicide usage by enhancing slow release of active ingredients, biological efficacy, and retarding phytotoxicity and rain-washing, and thereby contributing to a sustainable agriculture and bioeconomy.

The planned research activities of the BioSc CoreGroup Horticultural Science (Prof Dr Noga/ Dr Pariyar) are:

  • Characterize greenRelease formulation-plant surface interaction such as formulation properties, deposit characteristics on leaves ± fruit (apple, sugarbeet), UV-stability and residues degradation
  • Quantify and evaluate the greenRelease formulation - plant interactions including phytotoxicity, rainfastness and biological efficacy of the active ingredients at controlled as well as field conditions

Funding: The greenRelease FocusLab is part of the NRW-Strategieprojekt BioSC and funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia
