PhD defense of Jan Ellenberger

On the 3rd of December 2021, our PhD candidate Jan Ellenberger successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Sensor-based phenotyping of plant’s physiological stress responses to abiotic stress”.
The hybrid defense took place in the lecture hall of the INRES Department of Horticultural Science of the University of Bonn. The assessment of the thesis was enabled by Prof. Dr. Anne-Katrin Mahlein, Prof. Dr. Eike Lüdeling, Prof. Dr. Ralf Pude, and PD Dr. Mauricio Hunsche. In about 30 minutes, Jan summarized and reported on the key findings of his project. At the end of his presentation, he provided key conclusions on sensor-use, possible limitations, and future research directions. After a session of interesting questions from the audience, which joined the meeting from different countries and time zones, Jan and the committee started the private scientific discussion. Taking into account the thesis, the presentation, and the scientific discussion, the committee resolved grading Mr. Ellenberger with the grade cum laude for his great PhD work. At HortiBonn we congratulate our recent graduate for his achievement.
