Working group: Plant water balance and secondary metabolites

wg-Fiebig

We are deeply interested in fundamental mechanisms of different environmental stresses (drought, over-irrigation, UV-radiation, heavy metals) on plant growth and physiology.  In particular, our work focuses on the analysis of plant hormones and secondary metabolites (antioxidants, phenols, flavonols, carbohydrates, etc.) in plant and fruit tissue. We are also keen to study different irrigation systems to optimize horticultural crop production. With our research, we aim to interact with farmers and growers and make a real world impact: to increase crop productivity and quality to improve food security within a changing climate. Therefore, we are working on the following topics:

  • Analysis of plant hormones and secondary metabolites (antioxidants, phenols, flavonols, carbohydrates, etc.) in plant and fruit tissue
  • Effects of abiotic stresses on concentrations of secondary metabolites
  • Studies on different irrigation systems to optimize horticultural crop production
