The Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation is looking to fill by 1st October 2018, initially limited until 30th September 2020, the position of Research Associate (50%). The working group of Prof. Dr. Eike Lüdeling works on projecting the impacts of climate change on horticultural systems. To this end, they employ holistic systems modeling, risk assessment and decision support approaches. A further focus of the group is exploration of dormancy processes in fruit trees.

Your tasks: 

• Participation in the research project “Phenological And Social Impacts of Temperature increase – advances the understanding of current and potential climate change impacts on fruit and nut farming communities in regions differing in geography, climatic threat and socio-economic conditions in Tunisia, Chile and Germany” (PASIT - 

• Support and technical implementation of a probabilistic, holistic phenology prediction model for fruit trees 

• Establishment of a data processing system for projecting climate change impacts on fruit crops based on climate scenario ensembles 

• Projection of climate change impacts on fruit crops 

Your profile: 

• University degree (MSc or PhD) in computer science, ecology, agricultural sciences or a related subject 

• Knowledge and experience in ecological, agricultural or other types of modeling 

• Excellent programming skills, particularly in R 

• Knowledge on the publication of project results as online tools and interactive maps 

• Motivated, flexible, team-oriented and eager to learn.
