Audience diversity on UN Day of Biodiversity 2017 Similar to previous year, a variety of exhibits, project presentations and interactive show-and-tell pieces attracted many visitors of the Botanical Gardens of the University of Bonn to our stall.

This year, we focused on the project “Ecological diversity in fruit orchards”, a project promoted by the Federal Office of Nature Conservation (BfN). Different possibilities to increase biodiversity in commercial fruit orchards (nesting aids for birds, flowering plants) were presented.

In addition, our colleagues Hannah Jaenicke and Kim Preuß, with the support of Mareika Zizka and Johannes Krassmann, explained the topic “Horticultural crops throughout history”. Some visitors also explored environmental factors influenced by plants and potentially gained, due to smiling or crying plants, a feeling for positive and negative environmental influences.
